Finding Grants For Minorities
There are many different types of grants for minorities, at the local, state and government level. There are also many privately funded organizations that also provide a number of grants and scholarships to minorities. Now while there are many minority grants on the government level, the qualification standards are much higher, and only those meeting certain requirements usually qualify. Certain businesses, fields of work or research can qualify, but the average Jose, will have a big more difficulty.
Not to fear. There are many different kinds of grants on the state and local levels, as well as from foundations. Scholarships and grants for schools makes up the majority of these. Here are just some of the foundations and programs that can help African Americans get a higher education. The three that are at the top of the list are the United Negro College Fund, Frederick Douglass Scholars Program, and the Mordecai Wyatt Johnson Program.
There are many other scholarships that are available to Hispanics, including the Hispanic Nurses Association, March of Dimes, and the Scholarship for Disadvantaged Students, to name just a few. There are scholarship and school grant funding for the Asian community, Native Americans, and even for physically or mentally handicapped people.
There is also money available for all sorts of other things as well. Over one billion dollars is available for minorities in the form of small business start up grants, millions to expand existing businesses, and you can get a grant for $100,000 to start a business at home. You can get money for legal advice, pay for you daily bills, buy a home, or remodel the one you already live in. These are not just available to minorities, but to the handicapped as well.
While there are many different grant programs for minorities, there are some things you need to know. One of them are the websites that offer to provide you software on grants, for a fee. Be wary of these kinds of websites. For one, while they offer to send you the software for a minimal fee, they get your money when the software arrives. Usually this software has tons of listing of available grants, but they are presented in such a way the the lay person can be quite confused. In order to cut through all of the red tape, you pay for their ’services.’
You also need to be wary of these because these listings are not updated on a regular basis, and many of these can be obtained from websites that are completely free. You still have to check these free sites out carefully, since some of them aren’t updated regularly either. What you really need to do is just be careful, check with some of the your local and state government offices first. Another thing you need to know it that grants have deadlines, and waiting periods. It is a good idea to apply and try to qualify for as many at once as you possibly can. The more that you try, the more likely you will get at least one of them. You should also try to find foundation lists, and go directly to their sites, and find out what you need to do to qualify for their grants and scholarship programs as well.
